I had the amazing privilege to work for BBC Three for just under two years. In this time I shot, produced, developed and all the roles in between to create thought provoking (and sometimes just plain fun) digital first content.
Below you will find a selection of some of my highlights working at this incredible digital channel.
Drugs Map Of Britain: Fentanyl
Part of the successful Drugs Map Of Britain series, Fentanyl took me and Director Leo Fawkes to the city of Hull to examine the impact the man made opiate had on the UK’s City Of Culture.
This series really started to send me on the trajectory of starting to think of content which focused in on the people rather than the headline. Whether they are an injecting drug user, or the civil servant trying to keep their services affordable so they were not closed down, working on this series forced me to start looking at the bigger picture of a narrative, not just the narrow view typically found in broadcast.
Our Wild Week In Croatia
For an experimental series I gained filming access to the EDM festival Sonus which takes place each year across three super clubs on Pag Island in Croatia.
A series first for BBC Three. We followed different groups of young adults as they traded in the traditional notions of buying a house, to go out into the world for unique and different experiences. From lads on leave from the Royal Navy to Glaswegian girls having their first holiday away, it was a series unlike any other.
The Hunt Saboteurs
Flipping the script on my usual factual work, I found myself developing a documentary which focused on telling the story of Hunt Saboteurs, who make it their mission to uphold the law and stop illegal fox hunts. The film had been recently commissioned and now needed to be built up to be made.
Scouring across the UK, I gained access to a set of hunt saboteurs and hunts to create a well rounded think piece about the state of the illegal practice of fox hunting. The film and contributors were handed over to the incredible Daniella Carson, who created a great film.
